Research Project

The research project I completed for my Introduction to Mass Media class turned out to be a really fun project. Not only did I really enjoy working with my partner, but it allowed me to discover how social media directly affects people.

I learned that social media has it's benefits, but it really does create a lot of unnecessary problems. With the world constantly being focused on social networking sites, relationships between family, friends and co-workers suffer because of the constant reminder of needing instant gratification among people. False ideas are spread and jobs are put at risk as privacy is invaded on the internet. I found that after doing this project there seemed to be a lot more negative results coming from social medias rather than positive which is probably why I am so headset on deleting more and more of my social networking sites after the school year is over.

Compare and Contrast

I'm not really one who enjoys writing papers, but I actually didn't mind writing my compare and contrast paper. For my Introduction to Mass Media class I compared social networking sites, Twitter and Instagram, and after researching both I was able to really define the similarities and differences they have.

Recently I deleted my Twitter and in return downloaded Instagram on my Android phone. Seeing that I’m really into photography and artwork it's no doubt that I’d prefer Instagram. I noticed that Twitter tended to cause problems between people and had loads of annoying ads while Instagram doesn't really allow people to create drama, but share and express their creativity by taking and editing pictures. Basically what I’m trying to say is, although the two may be similar in some ways I really discovered how much I like Instagram more than Twitter, and why I’m happy I deleted my Twitter and decided not to reactivate my account.

Journal Project

I actually really enjoyed the Journal project that my Introduction to Mass Media class required us to do at the start of the semester. The project required students to keep a journal of all the media we use for a set amount of time. I found it was sometimes hard to write down all the different medias I used because there were so many, and it didn't even cross my mind. After completing all of my entries I was pretty surprised with my results.

A few weeks ago my computer crashed and deleted all of my files so unfortunately for me I don't have my research paper to look off of, and explain my predictions, results and so on. I can say from memory that I watched a lot more television than I thought I did because I didn't realize how much of it I used for white noise. I really noticed how much media impacts the lives of people today, and how it's become so socially acceptable to have so many different forms of media packed within an individual's day. The journal project definitely was worth the recording and analyzing because now I am well informed of how much media I actually use.
